@elitementaledge: Dictatorships are always overthrown. spend more time developing your leaders than thinking you have to be the biggest leader on the floor. It’s not about you at the end of the day. #sportpsychology #coachingfemaleathletes #collegecoach #mentaltraining #mentalperformance
Best coach I ever had made us emotionally invested in her. She was well respected and could be very tough, but we all liked her. i remember one day after a bad loss her coming into the huddle and instead of yelling she was crying. Said how hard she works for the team and how little we give back to her and just walked away. Completely changed my understanding of being on a team. Not only for coach but to my other teammates. All the players came together and promised to be better for her. And that turned into being better for each other, on every pitch, every play. And holding each other accountable to that standard. Won first conference and state championship.

How would you go about getting the average team to an elite team?

Yes!! This can be applied to leadership in so many industries too. The service industry feels a lot like a sports team and good leadership makes or breaks the team

I think this brings up a great conversation about Male coaches vs Female coaches coaching women. Thoughts?

Same with life / work. If you are hired and working with people at a higher level, management is there to support you. If you’re at a mid to lower level job, your manager is there to direct you.

Hm interesting phrasing. Def say, build a system. Emphasize buy-in & culture from moment 1… mandate mutual respect & accountability, regardless of circumstance.

Depends on the sport. In team sports, I would agree with that, but in individual sports practice by teams, such as track and field and swimming, that’s a different animal altogether.

90% of head coaches become narcissists (if they don’t start that way) because of total, unchecked organizational authority. the other 10% win trophies.

I think ego of coaches (and players too) are getting in the way of this. Coaches sacrifice, but they don’t properly acknowledge that players are choosing to be there too. Idk, I feel like a lot of coaches are quick to blame players or other factors instead of evaluating their own performance ALONGSIDE also evaluating their players

This is absolutely not true. The coach sets the atmosphere and the players run with it. U can’t let the players doctorate how the team atmosphere is.

I’ve had MULTIPLE coaches say “when the players hate their coach, they unite together better” as their excuse to be an asshole to the players. Like being an asshole and having your players hate you is helping them be a better team 🙄

Great points. I can tell a championship team early on, just by speaking to the head coach. Transactional lead teams never achieve the transformation it takes to become a champion. If they do they were just extremely talented compared to the rest of the league. I coach a girls JV and varsity, we never have enough talent, so I have to lead with transformation and building them into leaders.
