What an incredible day exploring Gettysburg! 🇺🇸 Today we did the self-guided auto tour of Gettysburg National Military Park, and WOW! It absolutely exceeded our expectations! We really weren’t sure what to expect, but we were completely blown away by the experience. The history, the monuments, the beautiful scenery, and the opportunity to stand in the very places where such pivotal moments in American history unfolded were absolutely incredible. A little history about this remarkable place: The Battle of Gettysburg took place July 1–3, 1863, during the Civil War. It was one of the bloodiest battles in American history, with approximately 51,000 soldiers killed, wounded, captured, or missing. The Union victory marked a major turning point in the war. Just a few months later, President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address here, reminding the nation of the importance of equality, freedom, and a government of the people. Today, the battlefield is preserved with more than 1,300 monuments, markers, and memorials honoring those who fought here. We loved being able to explore at our own pace, stop wherever we wanted, and really take it all in. The sheer size of the battlefield and the beauty of the landscape were astonishing. It’s hard to imagine such a peaceful place being the scene of so much suffering and sacrifice. It’s one thing to read about history, but something entirely different to stand where it actually happened. Gettysburg is truly one of those places you have to experience for yourself. What an unforgettable day! ❤️🇺🇸 #Gettysburg #GettysburgNationalMilitaryPark #AmericanHistory #CivilWarHistory #rvlife
