@jennysaisquoiart: In the tea world, you judge a chawan from the bottom. Turn it over, and the foot — the kodai — tells you what the front cannot: bare red clay left unglazed, white glaze that crawled in during the firing and settled where it pleased, dark marks where the kiln's flame touched. Around the dome, the fine crackle runs on, and the three gold seams end their journey at the rim. This vintage Ido chawan, made in Japan around the 1970s, was restored with hon kintsugi (本金継ぎ) — natural urushi and pure 24K gold. No epoxy, ever. #Kintsugi #HonKintsugi #Chawan #IdoChawan #Matcha #TeaCeremony #WabiSabi #JENNYSAISQUOIArt https://www.etsy.com/listing/4605252897/vintage-ido-matcha-chawan-24k-gold-hon
