@nonna.knows: ⚽🕯️ WICHITA SOCCER FIELD TRAGEDY — 16 DAYS LATER, THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL OPEN It has now been 16 days since the October 17 crash at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, that killed 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas “Nick” Schafer and injured 10 others. As of November 2, 2026, no new criminal charges or arrest have been announced. And several of the most important questions remain unanswered. The Wichita Police Department says investigators have conducted nearly 50 interviews and continue reviewing evidence from the Chevrolet pickup involved in the crash. (Wichita) ⚖️ WHAT THE DA HAS SAID The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office completed its initial review of the case in October. But prosecutors said they will not make a charging decision until they have reviewed all relevant investigative material — including toxicology results and the vehicle examination. They also said there is no artificial deadline for that decision. (https://www.kwch.com) 🚗 WHY THE DRIVER WAS RELEASED The 34-year-old driver was initially taken into custody after the crash. Police later released her after interviews and consultation with the DA’s office because, at that point, they said they did not have probable cause to keep her detained. That release did not close the investigation and does not prevent charges from being filed later if the evidence supports them. (https://www.kwch.com) 🔬 WHAT WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR No public release has yet established: • Final toxicology findings • A confirmed mechanical failure • The final vehicle-data analysis • A definitive cause of the crash • Whether prosecutors will file criminal charges Police continue to describe the matter as an active investigation. (Wichita) 🕯️ REMEMBERING COLE AND NICK While the investigation continues, two families are living with a loss that cannot be undone. Cole Adrian, 6 Nicholas “Nick” Schafer, 35 Two lives lost during what should have been an ordinary youth soccer game. The community deserves answers — but those answers have to come from evidence, not speculation.
