You missed the point in her argument here, capitalism as it exists now requires companies to constantly excite and satisfy stockholders (like suddenly overthrowing their company for the buzzword of the year: AI) rather than delivering their services well - WhatsApp has no need for a AI chat bot but it got one, Google didn’t need to replace its search with AI, at most it could have it as an additional button like the “I’m feeling lucky” button it used to have

but businesses do require infinite growth. they have to squeeze every penny as much as they can. Because its not just an economic model. Modes of production are inherently power. if you control the water you have control over a population and if you dont do what you can to wrangle that power someone else will. Its why having private ownership over these important areas of society will inevitably and in slavery, revolution or extinction.

China's market is incredibly capitalist. It exists within a framework where the state COULD basically take over a company at any time, but private ownership is the default...

The Federal Reserve system requires constant growth over time. New money must be created out of nothing to pay off the old interest and principal. It can never go down. Ever.

"Scarcity is the mother of all innovation" Capitalism loves scarcity, in fact, if something isn't scarce, it's rarely valued or focused on at all within capitalism. if infinite growth makes things more scarce, capitalism and the innovation that it drives will love it. In reality though, through competitive markets, we productivity improvements that actually make things more available and therefore more cost effective.

Well, saying Google hasn't innovated in AI isn't entirely accurate. The Transformer architecture, which underpins modern LLMs, actually originated at Google, and Google has continued to make significant contributions to AI architecture and foundational research. You can argue they haven't led in commercialization, but that's different from saying they haven't been a leader in innovation.

Every time someone takes A + B and end up with C, where C is worth more than A and B combined, and the work put in to combine them, the system does in fact have infinite growth.

lbut the problem is that search bypasses the ad system. the goal for search is not searching, it's getting you to websites with Google Ads on them, more than anything. except, no one is going to sites. soon, ads will. it be useful so they'll save my money by not making them. Google will see no money, the companies relying on showing ads will also make no money and those sites which provide a lot of our news will go away. then, AI will have nothing to search for current events

Also, I thought Google taking a hit in stock was because Alphabet essentially has decided to start burning cash on AI and missed their earnings target

Yes, creative destruction is fundamental to competition in a market. But i DO think constant economic growth is reliant on continuous creative destruction. People misattribute the fall of old companies as the fall of the market itself, when really it is just evolving. That said, I think it is easy to see why it is distressing for some to see, as consumers see the changes in their search results, workers see changes in their employability, and investors see the drops in their portfolios.

People need to realize the stock market goes up and down on particular days or weeks. That’s why taxing a billionaire trillionaire with unrealized gains is stupid.
