Chicago probably sends a lot more tax money to Springfield than they get from Springfield. If these counties made their own state they would probably end up very poor and struggle to survive.

I live in Maddisen County. I vote blue and I will never understand why so many people do not want to stay in Illinois. I will never understand why people do not want to pay taxes so that we as a society can live better.

So IL resident here, visited Chicago a couple years ago and enjoyed my long weekend and never felt unsafe. My home county voted to explore leaving IL and I'm incredibly disappointed, we get more funding than we put in, yes the state pension quagmire is an indirect cause of funding shortages leading to higher local taxes but that's been a problem since the late 90s I believe and hasn't been directly addressed by any governor but at least Pritzker is making progress

We get about $0.80/$1 of tax revenue generated in the city, southern IL gets $2-3/$1 depending on the county. I would love my money to stay in my neighborhood and patch these goddamn potholes 🤪
