please tell them after and save their sense of time. I use "did you know you did a WHOLE extra 5 minutes" then some sort of personal compliment. so next time they don't think a hard 10 minute task will actually take 15 because I played with their timer. or if they are really enjoying it I will randomly tell them I "accidentally" reset or cleared their timer so it can be left open
