@mollypelletier.rd: I eliminated dairy. Then gluten. Then tomatoes, citrus, coffee, alcohol, anything fried, anything spicy. The list of foods I had removed grew longer than the list of foods I still ate, and I was still symptomatic. That was when I stopped asking "what else should I cut out?" and started asking why this was happening in the first place. What I eventually understood: food was aggravating my reflux, but something else was driving it. My system was not being supported: • Lower esophageal sphincter (LES): the valve between my stomach and esophagus was under pressure • Nervous system: stuck in chronic fight-or-flight • Microbiome: disrupted for years None of these show up on a trigger food list, and cutting citrus does nothing for any of them. Root contributors to reflux often have nothing to do with your plate: H. pylori, hiatal hernia, slow gastric motility, constipation, hormonal shifts, and nervous system dysregulation. Food still matters. In a healing phase, reducing triggers gives irritated tissue space to recover. But food alone cannot rebuild the mechanisms that are failing, and treating it as the full answer leads to something I see in almost every client: hypervigilance, food fear, and a life that keeps getting smaller. If your safe list keeps shrinking, bring that list of contributors to your next appointment. Follow for more of the science behind your symptoms. #refluxtok #acidreflux #gerd #silentreflux #refluxdietitian

I’m so confused , so what’s causing it? I had to get my GB removed and since then I’ve been dealing with reflux , nervous system dysregulation. Sometimes I’m constipated unless I’m having dumping syndrome. I still get the pain in my side. I still have stomach issues. So what’s the cause? What is the underlying issue??

Alcohol. Alcohol. Alcohol. It relaxes the sphincter and makes everything worse for days!

I have gastritis and reflux; sometimes it goes away, and sometimes it comes back severely. I’m wondering how you can help me—I’m suffering from this, and my chest hurts. I don’t know what I should be eating; can you help me? I live in Sweden.
