The screw and bolt saga is not over! A few days ago I got to do a private dig at that giant warehouse where I got all of them. Here’s a lot of the details I’ve never shared. I originally bought around 15,000 lbs of hardware but there was likely 30X more than that in the building. Much of it sold at auction and got picked up but a massive portion was either abandoned or didn’t sell. The owner of this material originally talked to a scrap company to come in and remove everything but she couldn’t stand the thought of it all being scrapped. That’s when she hired the auction company. The auction did not go well…for the seller. Most lots went for 20% of scrap price. In fact, she said she bid on many of them because the price was so low. She would’ve made tremendously more money if they were scrapped and she’d have an empty building. Many months later, the building is still heaping full of old hardware. I bought another big load yesterday and it was really nice getting to hand select the stuff I wanted. There is no power in the building and the dust has accumulated for 50 years. I felt a bit like a coal miner but I had an absolute blast. There’s not much I enjoy more than digging in old warehouses!
