@browneyedgurl801: Bruiser, a senior Pit Bull, is a bit set in his ways. And when his routine changed, it led to a situation that got him in a whole lot of trouble… quite literally. While his owners were away, a friend was house-sitting and looking after him. They had asked her to take Bruiser out front for bathroom breaks since the backyard was under construction for a new deck. But Bruiser wasn’t having it. He refused to go out the front door, so the sitter tried another approach — she put him on a lead and took him into the backyard instead, doing her best to steer him away from the deep construction holes. That turned out to be easier said than done. At around 100 pounds, Bruiser wasn’t easy to control. In a split second, he slipped — back paws first — straight into one of the holes and got stuck. The sitter tried everything to free him but couldn’t. She called Bruiser’s owner, Nicole Michell, who reached out to friends for help. When that still wasn’t enough, they called in bigger backup: the Elmira Animal Shelter and the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company. Even the rescuers had a tough time. Eventually, they were able to widen the hole just enough to safely pull Bruiser out — after about 90 long minutes stuck in the dirt. Nicole and her boyfriend rushed home, worried about what they’d find. But when they finally saw Bruiser, he was just a bit muddy… and completely unfazed, acting like nothing had happened. The holes have since been covered, and Bruiser is back to his normal routine — this time without any more “hole” adventures.
