As a walgreens tech at a 24 hour location, it never bothered me being open. What does bother me is that we no longer get paid for the holiday unless we’re working it.

I don't think there's any reason for retail pharmacies to be open. People should plan ahead like they do for groceries/etc. Hospital pharmacies should be open to process ER,urgent scripts, discharge orders

the front store is open regular hours. you want to be profitable and wasting payroll staffing all these stores that are not to busy. my store is in a college area and we do 2k. thY is barely covering the pharmasist pay. Just close for 2 days

I think they should be, just with a high incentive for the workers to supplement it and incentivize working that day. I only say that because I’ve had a medical emergency on holiday and it absolutely shocked me to find out i couldn’t get my medication until the next day. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t eat or sleep until the pharmacy open and i was able to retrieve it

Do I think it’s a waste of money, yes. Does it bother me, no. I knew those were always an option to be open it’s retail. What DOES bother me is being full hours on Xmas eve. It’s a complete waste of money.

Every pharmacy? No. Maybe some high traffic hubs it makes some sense. I worked at a Kroger owned pharmacy and most of our pharmacies were closed on those holidays but a couple high volume stores located near ERs and urgent cares would be open a couple hours.

24 hour pharmacies, yes. Regular ones? No. Plan accordingly. And if there is an emergency go to the 24 hour one. If not then you can most likely wait until the next day.

I’m gonna say yes depending on your state BOP your hospital/urgent care may not be able to send a discharge pack of Abx out with the pt for the holiday. As pharmacists/techs we are part of the healthcare system and while not emergent you may prevent someone from getting progressively worse from an infection by delaying an Abx being given so my answer is yes (highly unlikely but possible).

I did the math and on the low end it’ll cost them 7mil (per holiday) to stay open. In no world do they make that “investment” back

Thanksgiving for sure. Its literally just Thursday and we don't celebrate genocide here. Not everyone has family stuff to do on Christmas and for extra pay, a lot of people would be willing to work.
