Houston, Texas, USA — Newly released body-camera footage has sparked attention after an ICE officer was seen running over a 48-year-old immigrant during an immigration enforcement operation. The incident happened on October 10, 2026, in a parking lot near Clay Road and Highway 6 in northwest Houston. The officer, identified as 33-year-old Mario Alberto Morales, was pursuing a vehicle when Miguel Parra Hernández, a Mexican construction worker, ran away on foot. Footage released by prosecutors appears to show Morales steering his SUV toward Hernández before striking him and driving over his legs. As Hernández cried out in Spanish, "You ran over me!" Morales responded, "Yeah, you got hit with a car, bro." Hernández suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg and nerve damage. He was taken to a hospital and later transferred to a rehabilitation facility. Hernández reportedly told investigators he ran because he became frightened after Morales put on his mask. On October 30, a Harris County grand jury indicted Morales on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with the vehicle identified as the alleged weapon. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare defended the prosecution, saying: "I genuinely hope that holding an ICE agent accountable for harming a community member will communicate to our community at large that we do not believe in what they’re doing and the tactics that they’re using." Latest development: On November 2, Morales turned himself in and appeared in court. A judge set his bond at $30,000. Morales' defense maintains that the collision was an accident, while ICE has disputed the allegation that its officer intentionally struck Hernández. The case remains ongoing, and Morales has not been convicted. Sources: Associated Press, Houston Chronicle, Texas Tribune and ABC News.
