@soldierswhisper2: The people of Normandy still remember and appreciate to this day the sacrifices that were made during WWII, and celebrate these memories annually to honor the Soldiers who liberated their country and the town of Sainte-Mère-Église, the first village in Normandy liberated by the United States Army on D-Day, June 6, 1944. John Steele of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), whose parachute caught on the spire of the town church in Sainte-Mère-Église could only observe the fighting going on below. He hung there limply for two hours, pretending to be dead, before the Germans took him prisoner. Danielle was born in Sainte-Mère-Église in 1939. Germany invaded her country and into the homes of her neighbors with her town fully occupied by the Germans. Want and fear was around every corner… Five years after the Germans took control, she found herself standing in celebration in the liberation of France. Her mother made her a beautiful dress from the airborne paratrooper’s silk parachutes, which she proudly has to this very day. French citizens hope their efforts to love and honor our Veterans and their families will rouse our slumbering American souls. #WWIIHistory #Occupied #Liberation #Freedom #paratroopers
