Comment 3, 5, 10 or 20 👇 3 years: earn £125,141+ in 3 of the last 4 years, or qualify through the Highest Talent group 5 years: earn £50,271+ in 3 of the last 5 years, work in an eligible health or education public-service role, or hold a recognised British connection 10 years: the new default, earning £12,571+ in 5 of the last 7 years 20 years: a specified immigration breach as an adult, or public funds accessed in the last 5 years Everyone must also meet four conditions: no UK criminal record, no government debt, B2 English plus the Life in the UK test, and sustained earnings. The Long Residence route closes. Families: a partner who arrives with the main applicant settles at the same time, while a later joiner completes the full period. Couples can combine earnings to reach £25,142. Under-18s are exempt from the income, debt and English requirements. Care workers: from 1 February 2027, if a sponsor loses its licence, care workers get up to 120 days to find a job offer plus 60 to resolve their status. Not in force yet, with no start date announced.
