In the first game, if you have 5 or more sins, he chases you around parts of the map to kill you for your evil deeds. That makes him a consequence-driven enemy: the game punishes the player's moral record by sending him after you. He regenerates and has a huge health pool, so he's a war of attrition. Killing him pays only 55,000 souls plus plenty of Black Souls. He also appears in the Ending C finale, waiting at the Gathering of Black Souls in the ruined Forest of Sabbath for a final battle. (Black Vanguard Lindamea +2) Characterization His speech after the BLACKSOULS 2 fight shows his worldview. He acknowledges you've grown stronger, asks whether you're working with Red Hood, and promises to hunt her down without mercy if she keeps living as a sinner. He then says he'll rebuild the Black Trial anew. Together, this suggests: (fgguides) (fgguides) Rigid moral absolutism: sin is binary and punishment is non-negotiable. Institutional loyalty: he sees himself as carrying on the Trial's mission after it collapsed. Baphomet is gone, Ezwald is likely dead, and Hein now works as a conductor. (fgguides) Grudging respect: he credits strength, which fits a warrior-judge rather than a pure sadist. Design and mechanics His signature move reinforces the theme. The Black Domain "Demon Wolf Who Judges" removes your Dark Resistance and Crit Evasion chances entirely, which fits a "judgment is inescapable" idea. The fight escalates in phases: once you beat his Hunting Horse, he dismounts and summons Guardian Eyes. The fog-then-ambush setup in the White Garden fits an enemy defined by dread and inevitability.
