@harpercarrollai: Sending you love. You got this!! And I’m here to help. If we haven’t met yet, I’m Harper - a computer scientist for AI who’s been building AI models for over a decade. I’m here to answer your questions about AI & get you set up with demos & expl(ai)ners. You’ve got this! Also, if you're new here, hi! I'm Harper. I've spent a decade building AI as a Stanford computer scientist and coding AI systems at Meta & at a startup acquired by NVIDIA. I've always loved to teach, and now I get to create educational videos to share the skills, understanding, and intuition I've worked years to develop with you. For my (free) 10 Days of AI Basics series + more, DM me GUIDE and I'll send you my video walkthrough guide.

Unfortunately, during my years at Microsoft, I was involved in developing the encryption protocols for Microsoft Money. Bank of America also developed a three-part handshake authentication process to help verify customer identities and protect financial transactions. Yet even those security measures were eventually compromised. Today, the problem has become even more complex. Criminals are using artificial intelligence to find vulnerabilities, break into systems, steal identities, and exploit unsuspecting people. We have made extraordinary advances in technology, but I question whether we have made enough progress in protecting the people who depend on it. We built technology to connect the world, make banking easier, and improve people’s lives. Yet security continues to lag behind the technology itself. The question is no longer just how advanced our technology can become. It’s whether we can make it safe enough to protect the people using it.

Yes but it’s still about money you have to pay it’s not exactly free when you start using it more and it is still dumb you have to explain in so much detail

This all sounds great from inside the goldfish bowl. What, precisely, should people be ‘willing to learn?’

I love how tech people think creating a new software solution or being better at corporate bullshit is something the world needs, and not food and a working healthcare system. And don't start w AI will solve cancer or whatever

just no... until there is a environmentaly responsible way to create it. which....it doesnt. when computers need more of earth's resources to work, then human need to live, there's a problem

You cannot compare the Industrial revolution with the AI revolution. The former spanned 75 years and allowed for new skills and jobs to replace those lost. AI kills 100 jobs for every new job it creates and the revolution will take less than 3 years. It's the recipe for a mass up-rising by the people. The key question, is not can we do something, but should we. The US and China are in a suicidal race to be dominant in AI.

well, yes, but there is two sides to that story, the happy one (the one that empowers you) to use it as highly productive and positive tool to solve problems, be more creative and possibly create your own business, and the dark one that massively replaces human labor across most if not all levels of work, leaving a great number of ppl without income and a way of living, triggering social caos and misery, let alone the innevitable dangers of using it as a weapon for terrorism, and military purposes....

The educated already accept this. Share this view in a room of service industry workers & you’ll be admonished with talking points from 2024 (ai is autocomplete, makes mistakes, consumes water, etc). I wish you luck in your mission but work fast! The divide has already reached the level of personal identity.

AI is the PhD physics, math, chemistry, biology, English, history and computer science tutors for my kids. It was my personal HP technical expert and a Microsoft Windows 10 technical expert when a printer failed to install correctly. It was a local county building code inspector and national electrical code expert when I installed an EV charging station in my garage. It was my personal real estate lawyer and land surveyor when a neighbor tried to declare they had an easement across my property. It is my personal financial advisor and retirement specialist. It’s simply incredible what it can do and helpful it is in everyday life. I pay $20/month although most of the stuff I describe here can be done for free.

But what are you creating it for? There’s no scarcity. Let’s say I come up with a completely novel concept. I create a working model using AI and put it on the market. Within a month, there are thousands of them and my novel concept has been “democratised.”

14 months ago I started building an app that solves a real problem for behavioral health. My coworkers claimed “so AI built it” and laughed. Now, I’ve now built an entire business from it solo as a non tech founder ready to start marketing. It’s such an exciting time

I remember when the internet was first introduced. The amount of opposition and hate it received the first ten years was wild to me at the time. Seeing the same thing happen again with AI is so mind blowing to me.
