Mama has told me over and over, “I don’t want to be on camera.” And I’ve always respected that. But last week, she asked me to make her some old-fashioned Southern tea cakes. When I brought a warm one into her room, she started telling me the sweetest story about sitting with her grandpa as a little girl, having tea cakes and coffee that her grandma had made. I’d never heard this story before. ❤️ So I asked, “Mama, would you let me film you from the neck down with your tea cake and tell that story?” And to my surprise she said, “I guess I’ll go ahead and do a video for you.” 🥹 So I grabbed my phone. There are days Mama is so weak that I wonder if she could leave us at any moment. Then there are days she gets a little burst of energy and I think she might be here forever. This was one of those beautiful little bursts. She perked right up strolling down memory lane, telling me about her grandma and grandpa—and the very next day, she was completely wiped out. I thought I had heard all of Mama’s stories by now. Turns out, she still has a few tucked away. And I’m so grateful I get to hear them—and now, preserve a few of them forever.
