The vitamin K shot is quietly disappearing — and that should worry us. 🩸 Refusals nearly doubled between 2017 and 2024 (from 2.9% to 5.2% of U.S. newborns), and some hospitals are now seeing 10–20%. The shot had all but erased vitamin K deficiency bleeding since the 1960s. Now a handful of babies are dying from it again. A lot of this traces back to disinformation in viral online posts. So let’s take one apart, line by line 👆 Here’s the honest version: ✅ Delayed cord clamping is great — but almost no vitamin K crosses the cord, so it can’t prevent VKDB ✅ Polysorbate 80 & propylene glycol are FDA-recognized safe at these tiny one-time doses ✅ Benzyl alcohol is a real concern for newborns — which is exactly why a preservative-free version exists. Just ask for it ✅ There is no aluminum in the vitamin K shot. Full stop ✅ Oral vitamin K is a real conversation to have — but it needs multiple timed doses and is weaker against the dangerous late brain bleeds The takeaway isn’t “stop asking questions.” It’s the opposite: ask better ones. Ask for preservative-free. Ask your pediatrician about the evidence. Just don’t skip the protection based on a screenshot. Not medical advice — talk to your pediatrician about your baby. 💛 #newbornhealth #vitamink #vkdb #pediatrics #newborncare

The older I get, the more I realize confidence doesn’t come from looking a certain way. It comes from keeping promises to yourself. These habits aren’t life-changing because they’re perfect. They’re life-changing because I do them consistently.
