@forgotten.feelings_: a guy across the table from me on a first date asked about my last relationship, and i started telling him like it was a normal story. how my ex would go through my phone, how he made me ask permission to see my friends, how he'd get quiet for days if i wore something he didn't like. i was laughing a little while i said it, like it was a quirky thing. then i noticed his face. he looked genuinely worried. he asked, very gently, if i was okay. and i just stopped. hearing it out loud, seeing someone else react to it, made me realize for the first time how bad it was. i'd been living inside it so long that it felt normal. i went home that night and cried in a way i hadn't before. that date didn't turn into anything, but i'm grateful for him. he helped me see it, and seeing it was the start of finally healing.
