@elyserox00: Coconut oil and hair lightener. Stylists are putting coconut oil on clients before lightening, and clients are putting it on their own hair thinking it adds moisture and keeps their hair strong. Here’s what the research actually shows. Coconut oil is mostly lauric acid, a small, straight fatty acid that can get past the cuticle and into the cortex. Olive oil gets in too, just not as fast or as deep. Coconut oil applied to dry hair before shampooing reduced protein loss during washing and combing. It doesn’t add protein, and it doesn’t add moisture. Hydration is water in, moisture is sealing it in, and coconut oil adds zero water. The only study that put coconut oil on hair before bleaching used peroxide and ammonia, not professional lightener, and it never measured what happened to the hair during processing. Virgin, unrefined or refined coconut oil all work. Liquid, fractionated or MCT coconut oil has most of the lauric acid removed. Coconut derived detergents in your shampoo clean your hair but don’t give you coconut oil benefits. Coconut oil is also not biomimetic. It’s not gonna have the lasting effects that coconut oil lovers think it does. Just because it can reach past the cuticle into the cortex doesn’t mean it’s going to stay there. Oil is a fat fat is also known as a lipid. Coconut oil is not going to protect the lid barrier around the hair cells. Just because someone’s grandma says that that’s all they used on their hair for forever and they have great hair, doesn’t mean that it’s going to be effective. Scientifically speaking, it just does not have the chemistry compounds to pack the punch that grandma thinks it did.. It’s likely that grandma used a hair care ritual along with the coconut oil that helped her grow healthy hair. She also probably had great nutrition because back then the food that she ate was real food, not the junk processed stuff that we have now. There are so many factors that go into her health. I wish it was as easy as slapping coconut oil on, but it’s not. You need a biomimetic lipid that can make it its way all the way to the medulla to actually heal, strengthen, add softness and shine to hair. The only product that does this, is Iuveni. Iuveni lipid layer quencher. Patented and proven. Thanks for the education on coconut oil, can always count on you to bring the good stuff and educate Stylist so they can be mini scientist behind the chair 😊

Didn’t pravana have a cream lightener with coconut oil a while back? It was when they came out with that blonding wand that didn’t work
