It’s okay for the adult bed to be for adults… When I met my partner I told him his son couldn’t be in bed with us… and that was out of respect for mom and i thought it was a healthy boundary. I wouldn’t want my kids in bed with dad and gf 😵‍💫

Allow them to come to you first. Don’t ask them because this can make kids feel like they have to report to you. It doesn’t seem like a big thing but it’s a lot more meaningful when kids speak to you first. - counselor here. 🤍

Don't grill them with questions. Let them share at their own time

I’ve learned over time to be really careful how I react to information or validate feelings to ensure I don’t unintentionally invalidate a boundary at dads or give my kids the impression I’m sad about it or disagree. We have totally different sleeping arrangements at each house, and no kids sleeping in the bed is a hard line at his (he has a GF there too so totally makes sense) whereas it’s not at mine. Early on, when they would occasionally bring it up, I’d say something like “its really important that you guys have your own space to sleep and it’s also really important that daddy and GF have their own space to sleep! It’s ok to feel sad but it’s super cool that you guys get to be independent, and daddy is right down the hall no matter what”. Sometimes validating the feelings without reinforcing the boundary, or telling them to tell the other parent how they feel, can make it a bigger thing than it needs to be or can create a situation where the responsibility gets put on the kids to discuss and negotiate the boundary instead of just having it made clear to them. I don’t want it to sound like I’m overanalyzing or criticizing, this is just something I had to figure out through my own trial and error. If they see me sad or looking concerned, it can make them feel anxious or confused. You seem like a wonderful mom, by the way!! These situations can be so tricky to navigate, and I can tell you are approaching it with a lot of grace and selflessness 💗

Regardless children should sleep in their own bed. The only time my daughter sleeps in my bed is if she is sick.

One piece of advice as a bonus mommy and mom just be kind to her this is a lot for everyone! It’s about the kids but she’s human too she won’t be perfect but always keep the communication respectful! Good luck to you guys ❤️remember to keep the kids as a priority and don’t let personal feelings come before that!

I want to encourage you mama. You’re already doing better than a lot because you’re welcoming the photos from a girlfriend, which is the best way to do it but try not to make those faces when the kids tell you things it’s OK for the kids to sleep in their own room, they’re big boys and I don’t really want them sleeping in the same bed with their dad and his gf

They should be sleeping in their own beds, especially if she’s there. Adults deserve space too. & it will help them be independent. My daughter never slept in my bed and now she’s soooo good in her own bedroom. She would come in if she couldn’t sleep sometimes but it was never an every night thing. That’s a healthy boundary [Twin hearts]it sounds like it went good otherwise!

This was the first time I didn’t have my son for Halloween. I balled my eyes out all day/night. How do you cope?

I remember when my mom first starting dating my stepdad I also had to adjust to sleeping in my own bed instead of sleeping with my mom. It is rough, but he’ll be okay, he’ll get used to it and eventually it wont bother him at all🥰

What is your guys current schedule? Been separated and starting the process of divorce for about 2 months now but just wondering what schedule has worked for you. The courts typically do 223 for my sons age which is brutal as his mom and been his primary and essentially sole provider for 99% of his life 🥺🥺🥺

Personally, he shouldn’t allow him to sleep with him if she’s in the bed. That would be completely inappropriate. However, dad could have laid with him and helped him to go to bed and feel more comfortable until he adjusts.

As the step parent going through this currently, it is a lot of change. Not only on the adults but especially the child. It’s all about finding that balance and taking one day at a time. You are doing amazing momma!❤️

I always slept with my brother at my dad’s house to feel more comfortable. Maybe that’s an option? In these situations your sibling is your constant and that can help a lot.

As the gf, we moved in after 1 1/2 yr of dating. The kids don’t sleep in our bed, but we have had mornings where they join us in the bed. There is a boundary because it is our space, but we do emphasize this is their home, too. It’s all about communication.

I feel like you & i may be in some of the same chapter of our lives. I have 2 boys (2 & 4). My ex just moved his gf (of 2.5 months) into their house with them (she has 4 children). He also has 2 additional children with someone from before me (so that's 8 kids when everybody is there) so there's a lot going on, a lot of changes. And we all seem to be struggling...dad included, some days. Your videos make me feel...more normal, on the days I feel like I'm a total disaster. ❤️I'm sending you guys love. ❤️

If you are comfortable with him sleeping in the bed with dad and gf I would just reach out to dad and let him know that you are, as a step mom I felt there were boundaries and didn’t want to cross them. But I’m sure if you reach out and just let him know that it’s fine that your boy will be okay to sleep in there.
