When we took Lion in, he had multiple wounds across his body, a severe skin condition (dermatitis), and was clearly in pain. His red blood cell count was dangerously low, and he was severely anemic. He tested FIV positive, had major dental disease, and was also diagnosed with renal issues. Our first priority was to stabilise him. We began a course of Darbopoetin injections to help regenerate red blood cells, while also managing his kidney function with fluids and supportive care. The Darbo injections was initially meant to be a four week treatment but just a week after the treatment ended, his red blood cells began to drop again. The vets decided to recommence the injections, while continuing his fluids three times a week for his renal condition. At one stage, Lions treatment was costing over $632 a week, just to get him well enough to undergo surgery. Once his red blood cells were back to a safe level, Lion had dental surgery, was desexed, and after months of hospital visits, we were finally able to bring him home. He now lives with lifelong medical conditions that require regular monitoring of his red blood cell count and creatinine levels. Hes on a special renal diet, requires routine bloodwork, and still receives regular fluids at the vet. To each and every one of our monthly support angels, thank you. Your contributions are the reason Lion is here today, happy and sate. We have several cats in our care who, like Lion, need ongoing medical treatment for the rest of their lives. Its our monthly subscribers who make it possible for us to continue providing this level of care. Monthly contributions go towards helping cats with lifelong medical needs, essential goods like food, litter, medications, flea and worming treatments. If you’d like to become a ACR monthly support angel, you can find the link in our bio. Every bit of support truly means the world to us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Sending you all so much love #CatRescue #RescueCat #KittenRescue #FosterCats...
