Want to watch Manhattan grow before your eyes? This is a new angle on my NYC Time Machine project, showing more than 350 years of change in just a few seconds. The island starts as a small colonial settlement and gradually transforms into the dense, constantly evolving New York City we know today. The project combines historical maps, property records, tax records, insurance maps, landmark data, and other sources to recreate how the city expanded over time. You can watch shorelines shift, streets fill in, farmland become neighborhoods, ships change with the technology of the era, and famous landmarks appear across the timeline. I’m building this because history feels completely different when you can explore it spatially. Instead of seeing one old map at a time, you can move through centuries and watch the city change in front of you. Idk if it is just me, but tools like this really help me get a deeper understanding of our past. This is still a work in progress, so there are definitely glitches and details I’m continuing to improve. My hope is that Manhattan is only the beginning. I want to eventually bring this kind of interactive history to other cities and time periods. What should I visualize next? Would you explore your own city if you could rewind it 300 years? Comment the city you want to see, and follow along for more historical time travel. #newyork #nyc #History #historytok #mamdani #timemachine #franksinatra #timelapseart #geographytok #architecture #historyfacts #map #maps
