@mona_ross: Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially pulled the plug on the proposed $225 million Public Safety Academy that former Mayor Eric Adams wanted to build next to the NYPD Police Academy in College Point, Queens. The project was designed to bring police, correction officers, and other city enforcement agencies together under one training facility. Mamdani had opposed the proposal during his mayoral campaign, arguing that New York City did not need to spend more than $200 million on the project and that the money could be put to better use. Now, his administration has confirmed that the plans been stopped, fulfilling one of his campaign promises. The decision marks the end of a controversial project that drew criticism from progressive activists and became widely known as NYC's "Cop City” #worldnews #newyork #mamdani #for #f
