@larry.floresberrier: #stitch with @Launa.Nicole 🌺 I am not tracking that skin complexion has anything to do with hair color in the military. Someone is more than free to correct me if I’m wrong. My understanding is that natural hair colors are blond, brown, black, natural red, gray. #military #army #miltok #veteran
black ppl can actually have blonde hair. There are albino black ppl.

it is natural hair color hence it is authorized. the hair color regulation is not predicated upon race. The Soloman Islands are full of black skin with blonde hair.

(5) Hair, wigs, or hair extensions/pieces must be of a natural hair color (i.e. blonde, brunette, brown, red, gray, or black). Hair extensions/pieces must match the current color of hair. Wigs, hairpieces and extensions will be of such quality and fit so as to present a natural appearance and conform to the grooming guidelines listed herein. Tints and highlights will result in natural hair colors and be similar to the current base color of the hair.

Her leadership asking if her hair presents a “natural appearance.” Meanwhile my black aunts with their naturally growing blond and scarlet red hair. I’m retired and former battalion EO…that leader would’ve been having a conversation with me.

Wigs aren’t part of the uniform if she had her hair dyed that color is different!

“Pull up the reg to show me exactly how I’m wrong right now” and if they don’t then you keep walking. Remember if they’re trying to correct you based on a reg then they need to provide the reference to prove it to you.

If a white person dyes their hair black, brown, red, or blonde, nobody says anything because “those are all natural hair colors”. A natural hair color isn’t exclusive to one race or skin tone. People of different backgrounds can naturally have those colors, and anyone can dye their hair one of them. But somehow people act confused about that when it’s convenient 😭

I decided to shave my head one day on deployment in Okinawa. My E6 (also bald) came at me with “is that within regulation?” I told him it was. He told me to print it out and bring it to him. He sat there reading it for 10 minutes trying to find a way that I was wrong [Tears of joy] my point is a lot of times they question you on it without knowing it themselves.

I got out of the military in 1995 and it is the same problem that we had in the 90s. These regulations are vague and they are left to commands interpretation and this is why it’s still a damn problem. When I was in the military, it was constantly you have to be able to be born with the hair color. Now it’s complexion this leads to racial bias it always has it always will

Air Force says as long as it’s a “natural color” it’s fine. 🤷♂️leadership is allowed to make rules more limiting though as long as it’s not discriminatory

This is the navy regulation on hair color. So yes, it’s really at the discretion on the commander on what is professional looking or not.

Navy specifies skin tone when choosing appropriate nail polish. But it never did with hair colors. But it may have changed in the 10 years since i retired.
