They laughed at him. They called him short, they called him ugly, they made memes of his face. But behind that laughter was a man with a big heart who only wanted to be loved. While many women in Kampala rejected him because of his stature, one woman in Jinja saw his soul. Lydia Nakandi — Maama Trump. They met in 2012 at Queen's Palace in Jinja during an Amarula Family show. Kapere was on stage making everyone laugh, but off stage, he was lonely. Lydia later said: _"I didn't see Kapere the comedian. I saw Yokana the man."_ They started staying in a small rented room in *Makindye in 2013* with nothing. No money, no furniture, just love. They had *4 children together* — and Kapere was a very proud father. He told Daily Monitor in February this year with tears: _"My wife stood by me when even my own family laughed at me. She made me feel like a king."_ In 2025, they finally did a big church wedding at *Miracle Centre Cathedral, Rubaga*. Kapere cried that day. He said, _"Finally I have given this woman her respect."_ And God is a witness — *he died in her arms*. On Sunday November 1, during visitation day for their daughter in *Buddo*, Kapere collapsed after complaining of severe headache. His wife Lydia was right there holding him as he took his last breath. From Jinja to Buddo — she was with him till the end. When Uganda had no place for Kapere, Amooti took him. Amarula Family became his family. Amooti taught him comedy, gave him stage, defended him when promoters refused to pay him. Messe Bontwe became his brother. They moved together from village shows to city stages. Amooti is now crying like he lost his own son. Bobi Wine did not just put Kapere in his *"Mr. Money" video*. He gave him dignity. When comedians were being bought to abuse NUP, Kapere refused. Bobi called him _"A man who loved his country and wished it well."_ Bobi took him to *Dubai in 2025*, bought him new clothes, promised him America. Last week, Kapere was at NUP Headquarters in Kavule laughing with Joel Ssenyonyi and Bobi Wine — no one knew it was his last meeting with them. Bobi Wine's tribute broke the internet: _"A man who made every dark moment light."_ Ssenyonyi said: _"Just last week we were with Kapere at Kavule. We were laughing. Now he is gone."_ NUP has announced a special vigil for him at their headquarters because he was not just a supporter — he was family. Kapere was not perfect. He complained in October 2026 that comedy was no longer paying, that his children were struggling with school fees. But he never stopped making others laugh even when he was crying inside. He is now gone. But he has left behind: - A wife, Maama Trump, who is now a widow - Four children who are now fatherless - Friends who will never find another Kapere He will be buried Tuesday 4pm in Mukono. Rest well Tata Trump. You turned your pain into laughter for Uganda. Now heaven will laugh too. #ripkapere #kapere #ripkaperelufotose #nationalunityplatform #engineerkasese
