I was at a photoshoot recently, and my photographer casually said: “Sometimes it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.” And I laughed because she had no idea how often I say that inside my coaching. Not because I want people breaking rules. But because so many good parents have been conditioned to run EVERY decision through their high-conflict ex. Every activity. Every outing. Every schedule change. Every little decision. And what happens? A simple decision turns into: 14 text messages An argument A power struggle Two emails to attorneys …only for everyone involved to eventually say: “That’s between you two.” Here’s what I want more parents to understand: Not everything is a major decision. Not everything requires approval. Not everything needs to be debated. And when you’re dealing with a high-conflict person, asking permission about things you are already allowed to do can accidentally hand over control you never needed to give away. The version of me today knows this: Part of healing is learning the difference between: A real co-parenting issue And A normal parenting decision that only impacts your household. Because good parents often become trapped trying to: Look cooperative Keep the peace Please the court Avoid conflict And in the process, they stop trusting themselves. Sometimes the question isn’t: “Can I do this?” Sometimes the question is: “Why am I asking permission for something I already have the right to do?” That’s a completely different perspective. And honestly? Learning which battles matter and which battles don’t is one of the biggest mindset shifts in high-conflict co-parenting. That’s exactly the kind of perspective I teach inside my masterclass. Because once you understand what is actually a big deal versus what isn’t… everything starts feeling a little lighter. Drop “map” in my DMs if you want that perspective. Know better. Do better. #highconflictdivorce #coparentingstrategy #divorcesupport #parentingafterdivorce #custodystrategy
