@rickyisaan: As an Aussie expat living in the Thai countryside, one question people often ask me is, how can I afford to live here in Thailand? But I think the better question is, how could I afford to raise my young family back in Melbourne, Australia, while enjoying the same lifestyle we have here? For us, life in our little Thai village is fantastic. We’ve got a comfortable family home, plenty of space for the kids to grow up, and most importantly, the freedom to spend time together as a family. And our secret? It’s pretty simple. Avoid debt! Staying out of the debt trap, not constantly owing somebody money and living within your means can make an enormous difference to your quality of life. And that’s something that applies anywhere, not just Thailand. I’m not saying Australia is a bad place to raise children. Far from it! But personally, I feel like the lifestyle we’re able to provide our daughters here in rural Thailand is something we’d struggle to replicate back in Melbourne. I genuinely believe my girls are having a wonderful childhood here, surrounded by family, community and the beautiful Thai countryside. I feel incredibly fortunate to be in this position.
