Technically every time he starts his swing he has “started his attempt”. He just stopped the attempt from fully completing. But I agree. There needs to be a definition of this. And it can’t be something like “crossing the plane of the front edge of the plate”. Because batters who stand up in the box will always break that front edge and batters who stand in the back may never cross it. I think it should just be “did their hands go past their front hip. Regardless of the barrel. Because guys can have their hands go way out in front and just loosen their grip so the barrel looks like it’s just pushing or sliding along. But make a definition and start using it. I don’t like “I think it’s the minors “rule” because that’s almost 3/4 of a swing
