@beam_magnum: Hathaway is genuinely one of the most depressing characters. He can smile, laugh, hold conversations and lead an entire terrorist organization while being completely detached from his own existence. There's something deeply disturbing about how easily he can switch between being a perfectly normal person and someone capable of carrying out such horrific acts. The cabinet ministers aboard the Haunzen literally praised him as a hero for saving them from the fake Mafty hostage situation, completely unaware that the man they were celebrating was the very person behind the real Mafty organization. Those same people would later become casualties of his own operation in Davao. Imagine sitting across from people, accepting their praise, smiling and playing the role of their hero, knowing that you've already become the person who will eventually take their lives. He carries the weight of his actions, but never seems to allow himself the luxury of stopping. He can kill, mourn, feel guilt and then continue with his responsibilities as if there's nothing left of him worth protecting. He wants to save humanity, yet seems completely indifferent to whether he gets to be part of that future. He's surrounded by people, but there's a part of him that nobody can reach anymore. The most chilling thing about Hathaway is that he doesn't need to look miserable to be miserable. He can smile right in front of you while silently falling apart. #gundam #gundamhathaway #anitok
