Shut down dogs are the best. The work you put in to have them trust you and to love again is so worth it. I had my boy 9 years. He learned to love and be loved. I miss my boy. Been gone a year.

I would never be at a meet and greet where the dog doesn’t come home with me. When we adopted our hound mutt, I told my husband “we are just seeing if she is a good fit”, his response was “we are clearly coming home with a dog”. She sings the songs of her people every night at dusk, she is aloof, she only makes eye contact if you are eating something she wants, she has never licked a human in her life, and I love her like she is my child.

This is my grumpy old man. When we got him (same day as the psycho chihuahua), he snapped at anyone who got near him. Couldn’t leash him for a walk for several days. Just let him have his space. He slowly got closer and closer. A few years later and now he’s always in my space. He’s my sweetest boy.
