@parishconnect: All Saints' Day falls on Sunday, November 1, this year. This weekend, the Solemnity of All Saints falls on Sunday, November 1, replacing the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time. Because it lands on a Sunday, Catholics fulfill their usual Sunday obligation by attending the Mass of All Saints. Saturday evening vigil Masses on October 31 will also use the prayers of All Saints. All Saints is a solemnity, the highest rank of liturgical celebration in the Church. It honors all the saints in heaven, both those formally canonized and the countless faithful known only to God who have attained eternal life. The celebration begins with First Vespers on the evening of October 31 and is followed on November 2 by All Souls' Day, when the Church prays for all the faithful departed. In the United States, All Saints is normally a holy day of obligation. When it falls on a Saturday or Monday, the U.S. bishops have lifted the obligation, but that rule does not apply this year because the day is already a Sunday. #AllSaintsDay #CatholicFaith #Solemnity #CommunionOfSaints #ParishConnect
