@rakeemandre: A South Carolina judge allegedly said a man should be beaten with a stick. But what makes this 1881 investigation even more remarkable is that one of my relatives gave sworn testimony about it! 📜 While researching the investigation of Trial Justice F. M. Davenport in Greenville County, South Carolina, I discovered an affidavit from Newton Vance. Vance reported that Davenport had told him Griffin Hawthorne should have taken a stick and thrashed C. D. Smith. The allegation was disputed, but Newton’s testimony became part of the historical record. Our Special Family Connection: * Newton Vance, son-in-law of Caroline Johnson Chapman Evans * Caroline Johnson Chapman Evans, member of my extended Johnson family * Luke & Milton Johnson, brothers and my ancestors * Henry & Isham Williams, my ancestors In my previous video, I explored how my ancestors appeared on opposing petitions concerning Davenport. Now, this new discovery takes the investigation further, revealing another family connection through sworn testimony. Every record adds another piece to our family’s history. Recovering our past, reconnecting our people. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #BlackHistory #SouthCarolinaHistory #GenealogicalNuggets
