I always saw the “Golden Rule” as a more general “rule” meant for interacting with strangers. A baseline. Basically, give to “the world” the vibe/energy that you wish to be given. Beyond that, there is absolutely a different standard for friendships/relationships. As you get to know someone one-on-one you should tailor how you treat/ show love to them in response to what they prefer.

you don’t seem to get the golden rule. it’s not that deep and it’s pretty surface level. you can’t put in the effort to treat EVERYONE the way they want to be treated but it’s more so if you want respect you give respect. loving someone is different

Golden rule still stands Both examples given have their flaws because IT WAS NEVER MEANT BE BE LITERAL “Treat OTHERS as YOU wish to be treated” requires BOTH examples in the equation in order to arrive at a balanced outcome as it factors in both your perspective and theirs before the activation of empathy.
