Turdilli (also known as tordilli, turdiddri, or crustuli) is a traditional Calabrese Italian Christmas cookie, fried until golden and crisp, then coated in honey and sugar. The holiday would feel incomplete without them. Ingredients Heat 1/2 cup olive oil, 1 cup sweet wine (sweet vermouth), 2 orange rinds, and a teaspoon of cinnamon just to a boil; pour into a separate bowl, remove the rinds, and add 1/2 cup sugar. Whisk 2 eggs and set aside. Mix in 1 cup flour and a pinch of salt, then add the eggs and stir with a wooden spoon. Add 2.5 tsp of vanilla baking powder and mix. Add flour as needed, roughly 4 cups plus or minus; once the spoon no longer works, knead by hand until smooth and combined. Cover with wrap, rest for half an hour, then shape the cookies into gnocchi forms.
