I’ve said yes to too much work and then realized my family was the one absorbing the stress of it. 6. I’ve felt guilty while working because I wasn’t with my kids…and guilty while with my kids because I wasn’t working. 7. I’ve spent evenings editing when I really wanted to be sitting on the couch with my husband. 8. I’ve picked up my phone to “quickly answer an email” and caught myself still on it 20 minutes later. 9. I’ve let a deadline make me short-tempered when my kids were really just being kids. 10. I started doing this because I wanted something that could fit around motherhood…and there have absolutely been times I’ve made motherhood fit around the business instead. That last one is probably the hardest for me to admit. I’m proud of what I’m building. I’m proud that my kids get to watch their mom create something of her own BUT I don’t want success if getting there means constantly missing the life I wanted this business to fit into in the first place! So no, I haven’t figured out the perfect balance! I’m just getting better at noticing when the scale starts tipping too far.
