Beside that: the only way you have to conquer a territory, or enforce your will on the population, is with foot soldiers. A tank can't patrol the streets. A jet fighter can't walk door to door. A missile can destroy a neighborhood, but when there's no neighbourhood, what do you even appropriate or command? What did you get? A bunch of rocks and ruins.

As a society we were built on individualism. It is what makes America unique. Our superheros were all individuals. Spiderman, Superman, Batman. 1 guy against evil. Then it became teams. X-men, Fantastic 4, Justice league. And westerns too. The Lone ranger, Clint Eastwood and the man with no name or dirty Harry. Then it became the Magnificent 7
