Could you recognize each one? 🔹 Bipolar I: A history of full mania lasting at least 7 days, or less if hospitalization is needed. 🔹 Bipolar II: At least 4 days of hypomania combined with major depression, but no full manic episode. 🔹 Rapid cycling: Experiencing 4 or more distinct mood episodes in a 12-month period with bipolar I or II. 🔹 Cyclothymia: Long-term mood fluctuations with highs and lows that don’t meet the full criteria for hypomania or major depression. Why know the difference? These patterns can look similar, but they aren’t the same. The distinction matters when evaluating symptoms and choosing treatment.
