MUCH quieter and the Nuclear is regulated but the gas turbines at the data centers are not.

It is a misconception to say that data centers are being built for AI. They're being built because companies have put (or are putting) everything online. Data centers host the cloud - all of them. All of your phone stuff? Data centers. The web, or at least 99 percent of it. All of your online shopping, gaming, streaming services. Amazon, Spotify, and here's a big one: social media sites. All of them, living in data centers. At present AI is using less than 2 percent of data center capacity. The real culprit? You're on it right now, if you're reading this.😎🍀

Data centres are not inherently bad. The heat can be used to heat homes, they can be built far from homes, they can be multi story buildings to save space… but without regulation, non of that happens

It’s unfortunate you didn’t talk about the noise, environmental damage, and water use.

It's because we need energy and don't need AI raising the price of our electric bill while replacing us at our jobs. Duh.

They should make the data centers not only bring their own power, they should require it to be 100% renewable energy.

It's crazy that they aren't still obligated to generate their own energy.

It’s not just increased energy cost, it’s water usage, non-green energy generation pollution related to increased demand, huge noise pollution from data centers - also increased energy demand needs new energy transport infrastructure- poles, transformers, wires, etc

All we need is legislation that demands AI charge the rate even it cost they pay to use it data centre problem solved🤣🤣 they are manufacturing demand by giving it to everyone for free.

The other cost of utilities is that climate change causes stronger storms that lead to grid damage especially on the East Coast where electricity is delivered by above ground wires attached to poles

the technology is too advanced for the available hardware… thus shitty data centers

They are also REALLY NOISY, yet being build in the middle of residential areas. Like having a 747 running next door 24/7

Water use is also a factor especially in places like the southwest where it's scarce

Saskatchewan, Canada here, and we are doing both at the same time. Our right wing conservative provincial government just loves to fug over the people for a few $$$.

I’m fine paying for poles and wires. I’m not fine paying a higher electric bill for software I never asked for and don’t want.

How many AI data centers does China actually have? We have a lot that are still offline. It's a weird dynamic. Almost like building AI data centers is a business decoupled from AI.

Alabama power doesn’t pass the data center cost to the customer. Some states are not doing the same.

it's not just construction costs that state must use all non-renewable fuels if it went down... normally sustainables are much cheaper so they'll use that first and then if they need more they use non-renewables which cost a lot more so basically in most states the cost will not go down
