I think it’s like saying POC includes white people bc white is a skin color too. While that’s technically correct, the semantics here matter less and the social implications are what matter. POC is meant to mean people who are out of the majority. LGBTQ+ are folks who aren’t the majority. Bc if you include straight, then it’s just the conversation of sexuality and not a minority group of people.

Yes, heterosexual is a sexual orientation. But it’s a similar concept to “black lives matter.” Obviously, all lives matter. But we say “black lives matter” because black people are highly discriminated against across the world. It’s a slogan to bring forward injustice so we can crush it. The name for the LGBTQ+ community is much the same. Heterosexuals are the non oppressed majority

I think you are asking in good faith, so I’m sorry for all of the snark and hostile comments. But it is because “LGBTQ+” is not meant to cover all sexualities. It’s meant to help to describe/connect those do not necessarily belong to what is “standard” in society.

Someone in the LGBT once told me “ being in the LGBTQ community isn’t about your sexuality, it’s about being a marginalized victim of society.” and I think that says a lot.
