@dgame171: Do you remember that Joy Girl in the popular Joy Soap advert? Here she is, ageing with grace. The Joy Soap advert became one of the most iconic television commercials in Nigerian history. The smiling young woman known as the "Joy Girl" was Benita Edith Uzoamaka Enwonwu, a model, actress, and former beauty queen. She was also the daughter of the celebrated Nigerian artist Ben Enwonwu. WHY THE ADVERT BECAME FAMOUS The commercial aired repeatedly on Nigerian television in the 1980s and early 1990s. Benita's bright smile, elegant appearance, and the catchy presentation of Joy Soap made the advert unforgettable for many Nigerians. For years, people simply referred to her as "Joy Girl," and she became one of the most recognisable faces in Nigerian advertising. WHAT HAPPENED TO HER LATER? After her modelling career, Benita largely stayed away from the spotlight. In recent years, photographs and videos showing her decades after the advert have circulated online, attracting nostalgic reactions from Nigerians who remembered her as the famous Joy Girl. For many Nigerians who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, the Joy Soap advert ranks alongside classic commercials such as those for Cabin Biscuits, Peak Milk, and Omo as some of the most memorable adverts ever shown on Nigerian television. credit Ethnic African Stories
