Facts. Any child thats exposed to dysfunction will exhibit disregulated behaviour. The disfunction will only materialise in their behaviour if they don’t address the child’s environment. Getting the diagnosis is the easy part, managing the behaviour is what the focus needs to be.

As a teacher of 10 years, I completely agree. The first step seems to be seek a diagnosis now rather than look at the home/parenting.

This is bang on . I also think sleep is massive , children staying up late on devices will have such a massive effect on their day to day lives

Diagnosis opens doors for Early Intervention. Parents need to implement everything at home to see any improvement.

Diagnosis makes no difference (except for access to meds and people believing you) ADHD house here. Grown up and kids . We have rules and boundaries expectations and limited screen time. I have the politest well behaved children (most of the time) everyday is still a struggle all around though

Honestly I could talk about this topic for hours non stop. You see when I addressed my mental wellbeing and improved my environment- my 3 sen children started to thrive and thats with me being a single parent too. I think LA and schools are scared to enter this conversation with parents

You are spot on with this! It baffles me that nutrition is not assessed or monitored when parents seek these diagnosis. For most children a good nights sleep, a decent diet and time with loved ones is all they need!

Parents need assessment for nuerodiversity first. Education on your own wiring helps build functional systems.

Thank you for saying this! I’ve been saying this for the longest time. At the end of the day, a diagnosis is just one part of the journey. The real work often begins at home. Granted, raising a child with neurodevelopmental needs is incredibly challenging, emotionally, physically and mentally. But this becomes your new normal, and as difficult as it may be, families need to learn how to adapt and manage. There is an element of grief involved. I understand that some parents may be grieving the life they once envisioned for themselves and their child, while coming to terms with a future that looks different from what they imagined. However, it’s equally important to recognise that your child still needs you. Learn to compartmentalise where possible and find ways to be emotionally present for your child. You can grieve the life you imagined while still embracing the child you have in front of you. Both can coexist.
