@microburbs: Your Sydney bus number is a code. The first digit tells you which part of Sydney it runs in. 1 Northern Beaches 2 Lower North Shore 3 Eastern Suburbs 4 Inner West 5 Ryde and the Upper North Shore 6 The Hills 7 Blacktown and Penrith 8 South-west: Liverpool to Campbelltown 9 Bankstown, Hurstville and the Sutherland Shire An X on the end (like the 170X to Manly) keeps the same code: it just means an express with fewer stops. The night buses run their own code: N10 heads south to Sutherland, and the numbers sweep roughly clockwise round the city to N90 up to Hornsby. Out of more than 500 routes only a few break the rule, like the 295 out in Epping. Does yours follow it? Tell us your route in the comments. Data: Transport for NSW timetables, via Microburbs.
