WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY LESSONS LEARNED❗️ At the most consequential moment of my life, my own attorney failed to explain my options to challenge the ruling or the critical deadlines. ❗️After losing a million-dollar asset, facing restricted parental rights, attorney’s fees, and $2,500 monthly child support based on income I wasn’t earning, I was left terrified and without guidance ❗️ 🚨DO THESE THINGS IMMEDIATELY 🚨 * Request Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law — demand the factual and legal basis for the court’s decision when the rules permit. The judgment must give legal accounting for every decision made. * File a Motion for New Trial — challenge errors, procedural irregularities, and grounds for a new trial. Read the Statutes and apply them. * Seek Reconsideration or Modification — ask the court to correct or revisit its ruling, that you know or can prove are incorrect. * Request a Stay or Supersedeas — seek protection against enforcement while legal challenges proceed. Even if you have an appeal. The signed order remains operational and enforceable. * File an Appeal — invoke appellate review and preserve your right to challenge the judgment. This is where you have to carefully preserve the RECORD!!! If it is not on the RECORD it did not happen. Remember that ! What I know now: In Texas, key post-judgment deadlines generally begin when the written decree is signed—not when the judge announces the ruling in court. ❗️ 30 days to request a new trial, 20 days to request Findings of Fact Conclusions of Law 30 days to appeal—potentially extended to 90 days by certain timely filings. Don’t miss a single deadline ❗️ What I didn’t know then , I know now. Don’t let an attorney tell you, “That’s what the judge decided. You’re just out of luck.” A judicial decision is subject to the law, procedural safeguards, and applicable appellate review. Especially when the process itself was tainted — as I contend mine was.#knowyourrights #learnthelaw #deadline #EqualAccessToJustice #judgementday
