@tracy_tysonmd: Here are 3 things I wish every parent knew about fevers in kids! ๐ก๏ธโค๏ธ Fevers can be scary, especially when your little one looks absolutely miserable. But as a pediatrician, I want you to remember a few things: ๐ Have a backup plan for medication. Acetaminophen suppositories can be incredibly helpful when your child is vomiting or refusing oral medicine. Know the correct dose for your childโs weight! Remember, not every fever needs to be treated. ๐ง Hydration matters more than food. Donโt worry if your child doesnโt want to eat while theyโre sick. Focus on keeping them hydrated and making sure theyโre urinating. โค๏ธ Watch your CHILD, not just the thermometer. How do they look and act when their fever comes down? Are they more alert, interacting, and acting like themselves? Thatโs much more reassuring than the number on the thermometer. And remember, a child who still looks very ill after their fever improves needs medical attention. Babies under 3 months with a temperature of 100.4ยฐF or higher need prompt medical evaluation. Fevers are a symptom, not a diagnosis. Knowing what to watch for can make those scary sick days a little less overwhelming. Have questions about childhood fevers? Ask away! ๐ Follow for more practical pediatric advice from a doctor whoโs been caring for kids for over 20 years. #PediatricianTips #ChildhoodFever #ParentingTips #SickKids #AskDrTracy
