@helpmommy66: Boys are active learners or kinesthetic learners. They learned best by touching things moving things moving around breaking things building things that is not the way our education system works in the United States and because of that boys education is suffering.#boys #education #vanishingmale
Yup! And anytime a five year old child can’t sit still at their desk for hours at a time, they’re automatically “ADHD” and need to be on meds 🙃

As a former 2nd grade teacher, I agree with a lot of this. Of all of the students that I held back, all were boys. Surprisingly, most had summer birthdays, which made them technically younger than their peers.

This is literally my 3 year old. He loves to explore and be active. When I take out a coloring book he screams and throws it in the garbage.

Teacher assistant here….I am speaking for kindergarten where I worked….there was 15-20 minutes “work” then they get a brain break….they have 1 sometimes 2 special classes a day(art, music, gym etc) and 2 recess a day….and lunch…they are not just sitting there “learning” the whole time. They have centers which gets them up and moving…again this is kindergarten and at the school I was at…cant speak for other grades or schools…lots of movement, lots of change….

Many women are just as frustrated at the lack of recesses and that K has been turned into what used to be first etc. The old K, which had “centers” for kids to move around, have been taken out. Expectations have elevated such that they spend too much time sitting. Soooo many K teachers (and 1st) are complaining about this. The districts are taking away the art, PE, music, etc. this has been happening for 15 years (when my kids went).

While I agree that schools aren’t necessarily set up for active learning that suits boys, I disagree that it tends to be because more women are teachers and administrators. In fact, most administrators are still men. The problems with schools are due to so many different factors, I find this to be very much and oversimplification of the problem. But as the mom of two adult men and a former teacher, I do agree that the learning style isn’t set up best for active learners and those are both girls and boys.

It’s not just that. It’s all about testing now. Every few months students have some type of diagnostic/state test.

even females deserve breaks. it should be learning for an hour then a break with art/music, gym, lunch, recess. so learn for an hour break for an hour

I’m a high school bio teacher. One of the problems is that the people in administrative positions (mainly all men in my district) are pushing for teaching to the state test. And have literally told me to save labs for after the state test since we don’t have a lot of time prior to the state test. Which is just straight up dumb and makes science boring. I have ADHD so doing this kills me and I tend to ask for forgiveness instead of peisiiy

Not what I was expecting before 7 AM. I I agree that the United States education system needs a truly huge revamp, but I do not believe it means less women in those education positions and more men instead. I believe that no matter who is in that education position needs proper training on how to work with a diverse group of students in the classroom. At least that was the training I received when I was going through my schooling for elementary education and higher education. Let’s not blame a gender. Let’s blame the lack of universal design and holistic education of these professionals- no matter the gender.
