Millions of you watched my sourdough starter series, and I have been so amazed by all the messages, comments, and photos you’ve shared with me of your very first sourdough breads! Watching so many of you successfully bake your first loaf has honestly been the most rewarding parts of sharing these videos. This is the follow-up I’ve been meaning to make for a while because it’s probably the #1 question I’ve been asked since that series: What do you do after you have an established sourdough starter? Do you really have to feed it every single day? The idea of feeding a starter daily can seem overwhelming, especially if you’re not planning to bake every day. But here’s the good news: sourdough starter is just an ingredient, and it shouldn’t become another chore on your to-do list. If you only bake once a week (or even less often), keep your starter in the refrigerator and feed it when you’re getting ready to bake. If you bake more frequently, you can keep it on the counter for convenience. The best part? An established sourdough starter is incredibly resilient. There’s a reason it’s been used as a leavening agent for thousands of years. It’s much less finicky than many people think. Forgetting to feed it for a couple days isn’t the end of the world! Just don’t let it sit so long that it becomes overly neglected. As someone who’s not naturally organized and definitely doesn’t stick to a perfect routine, I’ve actually found maintaining a sourdough starter to be surprisingly easy. And that’s because a healthy, established starter is far more forgiving than you might think! I hope this video helps take some of the intimidation out of sourdough and gives you the confidence to keep baking. 🍞 #sourdough #sourdoughbread #sourdoughtok #bakingtiktok
