@theoriesofeverything_: Most Neuroscientists Put Consciousness in the Cortex. I Don't. Neuropsychologist Mark Solms says the fundamental form of consciousness is raw feeling generated in the upper brain stem, a view opposed by the majority of neuroscientists, who place it in the cortex. He points to a child with no cortex and to brain stem stimulation, and hopes he lives to see the field change. #consciousness #neuroscience #Science Full Podcast with Mark Solms: https://youtu.be/-RxkxSD78cQ
Really? Then show us what consciousness looks like, I’ll wait.

Consciousness is non physical, it is in spiritual space and it is above human perception.

negative, it's recorded in the brain. consciousness is generated by your soul

Octopus have like 8 or 9 brains. They very obviously don't have 8 or 9 consciousnesses.

if we accept as a known fact brain activity is solely responsible for consciousness then the only piece of the brain that when removed causes causes a cessation of bodily functions must be the seat, since you can pop out every other chunk and the person can still have degraded function. convenient but still need better evidence that the brain alone is solely responsible for consciousness

Being the seat of consciousness is not the same as being the origin of it. I would say the cortex isn’t even the seat; it’s the expression of it.

This gentleman is explaining upward causation where atom for molecules, molecules form organs, organs for systems including the nervous system where there is a stimulus and a decision forms consciousness. Old school. I’ll debate the brilliant researcher and my argument would be that consciousness is fundamental.

That is the seat of physical sensation, not the seat of consciousness

This is a correlation causation fallacy at its finest. It’s not that complicated. The question is when does physical material become immaterial mental. Because telling me you fidget it with a part of my brain to get something, doesn’t explain anything it’s like telling me if you poke my finger with a needle, pain would be produce like duh thank you. I wanna know when does the touch between the needle and my finger transitions into a mental sensation? Until then the hard problem of consciousness is the strongest contender of truth.

Then how do your explain the split brain study results? The upper brain stem doesn’t divide into left and right, but split brain patients act like there are two separate consciousnesses.

Dr Gary :
This gentleman elucidates the concept of upward causation, wherein atoms give rise to molecules, molecules form organs, and organs contribute to systems, including the nervous system. Within the nervous system, stimuli trigger decisions, ultimately leading to the formation of consciousness. This traditional perspective is worth considering. However, I would argue that consciousness is fundamental, challenging the notion that it arises from a series of preceding processes.
