Getting started with flash photography can feel confusing. There are different sizes, shapes, and controls, and it takes practice to understand how they change your photos. These are the flashes in my photography kit: the Godox V1, TT600, iT32, and SK400 II. As I keep learning and building my home studio, I’m sharing the equipment I have and what I learn along the way. If you’re new to flash, start by understanding these basics: 1. Your flash adds light. You control how much it contributes by adjusting its power. Start with a test photo, check the result, and make small changes. 2. Placement changes the look. Light coming straight from the camera creates a different result from light placed beside your subject. Moving your flash can change the shadows and shape of your portrait. 3. Modifiers matter. An umbrella or softbox changes how the light reaches your subject. Its size and distance from your subject help determine how soft the shadows look. 4. A speedlight and a studio strobe are different tools. Speedlights are small flashes that can sit on your camera or be used off camera with a compatible setup. A studio strobe, like my SK400 II, is a larger light used off camera. 5. Practice with one light first. Keep your setup simple so you can see what each adjustment does. Move the light, take another photo, and compare. You don’t need every flash in this video to begin. Learning to control one light is a useful first step toward creating portraits with more intention. Which one would you like me to show in a full setup, with the finished photos? #FlashPhotography #Godox #PhotographyForBeginners
