I want to work harder to be a person that is comfortable with someone coming over last minute and being in my space like trying to work through the feeling of wanting everything to look perfect in my space when someone drops by and trying to teach myself that it doesn’t matter

This is friend group specific, absolutely do not feel comfortable inviting yourself to my house. If you're in the neighborhood and want to meet out, absolutely send that text, but showing up unannounced or a self-invite will have you outside looking in windows.

Yeah but at the same time why do I have to invite myself and always start the plans all the time? If I say “you should plan something in your area, I’d love to come anytime!” And then it’s crickets forever why do I have to put the effort in? Regardless if we’re hanging out here or there I’m still the one making the effort. It’s tiring after a while. Plus I don’t know the area, they do, they live there. It’s be nice if they saw an event around them or had a new restaurant they wanted to try and they invited me. I shouldn’t have to go out of my way to research what’s near them!

When I was a kid, I remember dropping in to visit people after dinner like once a week. My dad worked nights and I think it helped my mom get through the evenings. We always brought a treat and only stayed for an hour or so, but so few people do that these days.
